Enchain SMP

Any enchant on any item. Only one of each enchant on the whole server.

EnchainSMP is a recreation of the Enchain SMP. Enchanting tables are gone, every enchant can go on every item, and each enchant level can only exist on one item at a time. Enchants also do new things when they're on items they don't normally work on, like Blast Protection arrows that blow up terrain or a Riptide sword you can launch with anywhere.

Five minutes after the SMP starts, every online player gets one random enchant on the item they're holding. A boss bar counts down to it and plays a sound for the last few seconds. The roll can land on a curse, so it can be good or bad. It only happens once and doesn't come back after a restart.

Enchanting tables can't be opened, and you can turn off crafting them too. After the starting roll, the only ways to get enchants are:

  • Enchanted books and anvils. Loot, trading and fishing still work as normal.
  • Kills. When a player kills you while you're holding an enchanted item, it drops as the plain item plus a book with all of its enchants.
  • The Dragon Egg (see below).
  • Kill reward events that admins can start.

Anvils ignore vanilla restrictions and conflicts. You can put Sharpness on a pickaxe, Riptide on a sword, Protection on a stick, or Multishot on TNT. Every enchant added or upgraded costs a flat 5 XP levels, and you can change that cost.

Every enchant and level counts as its own unique enchant. If one player has Protection IV, nobody else can get Protection IV, but Protection III is still free for someone else.

An enchant becomes free again when:

  • it's taken off at a grindstone,
  • the item breaks, burns, despawns or falls into the void,
  • the holder is killed and their held item is split into a book,
  • or an admin releases it.

Duplicates from loot, villagers or mobs get removed automatically. If you try to pick up an item or book with an enchant that someone else already owns, it explodes in your face.

Whoever holds the Dragon Egg can pick any free enchant they want. To use it:

  1. Hold the egg in your main hand.
  2. Put the item you want to enchant in your offhand.
  3. Right-click the air to open a menu of every enchant.

You get the highest level of that enchant that nobody else owns.

When the Ender Dragon dies, deathban turns on. From then on, anyone who dies is out for good. By default they're put in spectator mode, or you can set it to ban them. Admins can revive players.

Reworked enchants

  • Protection: gives extra hearts instead of damage reduction (1 heart per level).
  • Efficiency: on a weapon or armor, makes you attack faster. On a bow or crossbow, burst fire shoots extra arrows one after another, like a gun.
  • Quick Charge: attack speed. Together with Efficiency, it removes the attack cooldown completely.
  • Blast Protection: on weapons, hits explode. Arrows, tridents and thrown items explode and destroy terrain where they land.
  • Channeling: strikes lightning on every hit and where projectiles land, in any weather.
  • Density: any item becomes a mace and deals smash damage when you hit while falling. On armor, landing slams everything around you.
  • Wind Burst: any weapon launches you back up after a falling hit. On armor, sneak in midair to double jump. Projectiles burst like a wind charge.
  • Riptide: on any item, right-click to launch instantly with no charging and no water needed. You get the full spin attack, but it doesn't work while you're on fire.
  • Loyalty: on any item, right-click to throw it instantly. It hits like the weapon and always comes back.
  • Lunge: on any item, left-click the air to dash forward.
  • Multishot: throwables throw extra copies. On melee weapons, everyone near the target takes 50% of the damage. On TNT, right-click to launch lit TNT like a cannon.
  • Piercing: goes straight through shields.
  • Power: adds melee damage. On armor, sneak and jump to do a power jump.
  • Punch: knocks targets back on melee hits and thrown items.
  • Flame and Fire Aspect: work on any weapon or projectile. Together they set targets on fire basically permanently.
  • Sweeping Edge: any weapon does a real sweep attack.
  • Knockback: on a shield, launches attackers who hit you. On a fishing rod, launches whatever you hook.
  • Infinity: the item is never used up. That covers golden apples, food, potions, totems, blocks, pearls, buckets, fireworks and crossbow ammo.
  • Mending: on any item, it repairs all of your gear when you pick up XP.
  • Frost Walker: works on any item. Riding a boat freezes the water around you, so you fly across the ice.
  • Lure: pulls nearby dropped items towards you.
  • Silk Touch on a weapon: mobs you kill can drop their spawn egg.
  • Fortune on a weapon: mobs drop extra loot.
  • Curse of Binding: on any item, you can't drop it or store it in chests.
  • Fire Protection, Projectile Protection, Blast Protection and Feather Falling: reduce their kind of damage even when held in your hand.
  • Respiration, Aqua Affinity, Depth Strider, Swift Sneak, Soul Speed and Luck of the Sea: work from any item you hold.

Every effect can be turned on or off and tuned in config.yml.
