How to install a Minecraft texture pack (resource pack)
Updated
To install a texture pack, put the .zip file in the .minecraft/resourcepacks folder without unzipping it, then open Options > Resource Packs in game and move the pack to the Selected side.
Steps
- Download the pack
Download the .zip. Do not unzip it.
- Open the resource packs folder
In game go to Options > Resource Packs > Open Pack Folder, or open .minecraft/resourcepacks.
- Add the .zip
Copy the .zip into that folder.
- Turn it on
Back in Resource Packs, click the arrow on the pack to move it to Selected, then Done.
Tips
- Packs higher in the Selected list override the ones below.
- Servers can send a pack to every player: host the .zip online and set resource-pack and resource-pack-sha1 in server.properties.
Frequently asked questions
Why does it say the pack is made for an older version?
The pack's format number doesn't match your version. It often still works; click Yes to use it anyway.
Do texture packs need OptiFine?
Most don't. Packs with connected textures or custom models by name may need OptiFine, or Sodium with add-on mods; the pack page will say.
